Washington D.C. – Today, President Biden announced new executive action to expand protections from deportation and pathways to legal status for spouses of U.S. citizens. This action will protect hundreds of thousands of immigrants who are married to U.S. citizens and have resided in the United States for over 10 years, providing stability and opportunity to thousands of farm worker families. UFW President Teresa Romero, who was present at the White House for the announcement, has released the following statement.
“The United Farm Workers welcomes today’s historic action by President Biden to protect American families from being cruelly separated by deportation,” said UFW President Teresa Romero. “The UFW is eager to assist the many eligible rank-and-file union members and their spouses in applying for these new protections. These are longstanding U.S. residents who are loving wives and husbands of American citizens, as well usually the parents of American children. President Biden’s executive action today will keep farm worker families together and expand the organizing potential of the labor movement among immigrant essential workers. The UFW will continue to fight for a pathway to U.S. citizenship for every farm worker in America.”
