UFW at town hall forum on bill deleting legal residency demand for obtaining driver’s licenses

The United Farm Workers will participate at a town hall forum Monday in Fresno to support legislation allowing people to apply for driver’s licenses without showing proof of legal residency or Social Security cards.

UFW Vice President Tanis Ybarra will argue that AB 1463, by Assemblymember Gilbert Cedillo (D-Los Angeles), is needed so farm workers and other Central Valley residents do not suffer because requirements such as legal residency put untrained and unlicensed drivers on state roadways.

Who:    Assemblymember Gilbert Cedillo (D-Los Angeles), UFW Vice President Tanis Ybarra and representatives from other Central Valley community groups.

What:    Town hall forum on AB 1463, Cedillo’s bill allowing all drivers to apply for a California driver’s license.

When:   4-7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 1, 1999.

Where:    Ted C. Wills Community Center, 707 San Pablo St., Fresno.
