More than seven thousand walk to honor Cesar Chavez on the 80th anniversary of his birth

3/31/07: More than seven thousand people including UFW President Arturo Rodriguez, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, members of Cesar Chavez’s family, elected officials, celebrities, peace and labor activists, and over 3,000 K-12 students. Special guest walkers included The Black Eyed Peas, "Ugly Betty’s" Tony Plana and Culture Clash’s Herbert Siguenza. Musical entertainment by Upground.

What:  9th Annual Cesar E. Chavez Walk spotlighting the UFW founder’s legacy of nonviolence and respect for working people, including farm workers.  The event commemorates the California state holiday in honor of Chavez and is celebrated on his actual birthday.

When:   Program began at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 31st, 2007; walk immediately followed; walkers returned for program and festival at approximately 11:30 a.m.
