Dolores Huerta’s condition improves to fair

UFW co-founder Dolores Huerta was upgraded to fair condition on Saturday, Dec. 9 at UCLA Medical Center. On that day she was moved from the hospital’s intensive care unit to a regular room.

She was was transfered by helicopter ambulance to UCLA Medical Center on Dec. 7, with complications from a previous surgery. Doctors expect Dolores to be at UCLA at least through the end of the week.

The Huerta family has requested that her privacy be respected. People are asked to understand that she is unable to accept visitors, telephone calls or flowers. Cards and messages can be forwarded to P.O. Box 9189, Bakersfield, CA 93309 or via e-mail care of ufwofamer@aol.com. Family members suggest that well-wishers donate blood to their local blood bank in honor of Dolores instead of trying to visit or telephone her. (She has required 27 pints of blood over the course of her surgery and recovery).
