Free documentary filmmaking case study on the making of Cesar’s Last Fast Aug. 19 in San Jose

Sundance Institute is offering a free documentary filmmaking live case study about the making of Cesar’s Last Fast on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Hammer Theater in San Jose.

The acclaimed 2014 full-length feature documentary by Richard Ray Perez focuses on Cesar Chavez’s last and longest public fast of 36 days in 1988 over the pesticide poisoning of farm workers and their children. But the filmmakers used that fast to cover the full length of Cesar’s life and struggle for farm workers. Cesar’s Last Fast premièred that year at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

The all-day event will consist of an in-depth case study of the documentary, a screening of the film and a series of panels and Q&As with Richard Ray Perez, the film’s composer (San Jose native Ed Barguiarena) and distribution executives. The case study will follow the story’s life cycle from initial idea to release, with discussions on producing, unique story structures, score composition, and sales and distribution options to reach worldwide audiences.

The event is free and open to the public, but attendees must RSVP! For more details about the case study visit:
