Workers protest their firing by vineyard because they asked for a pay raise
Delano, Calif.—Twenty truck drivers and swampers laboring for Castle Rock Vineyards asked their company for a raise on Tuesday. The workers earn $10 an hour; they asked for $11.50. The vineyard responded by firing them from their jobs. Eight workers were later called back to work.
The fired employees turned for help to the United Farm Workers. The union is supporting the workers as they protest at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) outside Castle Rock Vineyards at 501 Richgrove Dr., Delano 93215. The workers have filed unfair labor practice charges with the Agricultural Labor Relations Board.
