"Despite at least 10 farm worker deaths since the passing of the heat illness regulations in 2005, and six more farm worker deaths this summer that the state is investigating, the Cal-OSHA Standards Board passed a new heat illness regulation yesterday without adding any real protections for farm workers. And again, this year as in all previous years, no heat deaths occurred on any farms where workers are represented by the United Farm Workers. Regulations are only enforced when workers themselves are free of intimidation."
