UFW awards ‘Si Se Puede’ scholarships to 12 Central Coast college students, children of union members, during awards ceremony banquet
More than $20,000 this year to kids in California, Washington and Oregon
United Farm Workers President Arturo Rodriguez presents scholarships to 12 students, the children of union members entering or attending college at an awards ceremony Friday evening in Salinas.
“For our farm workers, watching their children receive these scholarships is perhaps the benefit they value most as UFW members,” Rodriguez says. “This scholarship program was a dream by members and now it has become a reality.”
The 12 students were selected to receive scholarships because of their academic excellence and community involvement. “We hope to see them come back one day as professionals and help us continue the fight for better working conditions and protections for farm workers,” Rodriguez adds.
