UFW asks to meet with California Lt. Gov. Maldonado after reports of unsafe conditions at his farm

Today, Los Angeles Times reported serious workplace violations and a farm worker death at California Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado’s strawberry farm.  With as many as 16 farm worker deaths due to heat illness alone during Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s administration, the report of a farm worker death at Maldonado’s farm is of deep concern.

The UFW is demanding urgent action from Lt. Gov. Maldonado, who is frequently serving as acting governor, to protect farm workers.  The United Farm Workers sent a letter to lieutenant governor requesting a meeting with UFW President Arturo Rodriguez to discuss how he can support labor protections for farm workers.
