Members of the United Farm Workers and DREAM Act students in Delano, Oxnard, Salinas and Santa Rosa will be joining the Reform Immigration FOR America campaign in calling U.S. Senators and urging them to vote in favor of the DREAM Act legislation.
Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 216-198 to pass the DREAM Act. The DREAM Act bill would give undocumented young people who came to the country as children a path to citizenship if they enlist in the U.S. military or attend college. The Senate is poised to consider the DREAM Act this week.
“The House capped a 10-year effort by offering a qualified path to citizenship for thousands of our nation’s most promising young students who were brought to this country through no fault of their own. Nothing will contribute more to satisfying America’s pressing need for an educated work force motivated to serve country and community,” said UFW President Arturo Rodriguez.
“Now we call on the U.S. Senate to ignore the dark forces of ignorance and intolerance, and finally make the DREAM Act law,” he said
