UFW and Community Leaders Take a Stand Against Prop 11

SANTA ROSA – The United Farm Workers, elected officials and community leaders will hold three simultaneous press conferences Thursday morning to show opposition to Prop 11.

Prop 11 is being presented as an effort to change the redistricting process for the better. But in reality it will lead to thousands of minorities to be disenfranchised and their political will made null and void. It would unravel the hard-fought battles for voting rights waged by generations of minorities.

In its editorial against Prop 11, La Opinion had this to say: “Proposition 11 does not guarantee diversity nor does it depoliticize the process, as proponents contend….The problem is that the initiative could have a negative impact on fair political representation for Latinos. This is reason enough to reject Proposition 11.”
