UFW President Rodriguez, U.S. Rep. Berman at event to jumpstart young valley immigrants’ bids to legally stay

As new details are released about President Obama’s decision to let certain young undocumented immigrants obtain work permits and avoid deportation, United Farm Workers President Arturo Rodriguez and U.S. Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.) are appearing at an event on Monday in Northridge to help San Fernando Valley residents learn about and apply for the President’s deferred action program.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently released additional information about the program. “As it moves forward, the UFW Foundation wants to make sure families in the San Fernando Valley receive accurate information,” says the UFW’s Rodriguez. “Our young immigrants deserve to work legally in the United States without the fear of deportation. That is why the UFW Foundation is co-hosting this special event to jumpstart what is sure to be an exciting time for immigrant rights.”

The UFW and the UFW Foundation are hosting this informational session on the deferred action application process. Rep. Berman, author of the original DREAM Act, is a guest speaker. The event is open to the public and interested students, workers and community members between the ages of 15 and 30 are especially encouraged to attend.
