UFW Foundation Announces Open House in Los Angeles, celebrating the 50 year legacy of Cesar Chavez’s United Farm Workers

Los Angeles, CA – The UFW Foundation is pleased to request your attendance at its first Open House in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at the UFW Foundation Offices located in El Gallo Plaza, 4545 E. Cesar E. Chavez Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90022. Arturo Rodriguez, United Farm Workers President and UFW Foundation Board President, will attend the event and more information on the United Farm Workers’ upcoming 50th Anniversary Celebration will be announced.

This year, the United Farm Workers (UFW), founded by Cesar Chavez, is celebrating 50 years of service to America on behalf of the farm worker.  The UFW is the oldest Latino organization to come out of the 1960’s civil rights movement and the largest farm worker organization that continues to be at the forefront of protecting America’s farm workers and ensuring a safe and just food supply. As a tribute to its sister organization’s accomplishments, the UFW Foundation’s event theme, “Continuing the Legacy, Be a Part of the Next Fifty Years,” honors the contributions of thousands of Los Angeles community members to the Farm Worker Movement and encourages them to continue to be involved in the future.

As one of the UFW’s newest ventures, the UFW Foundation has played a critical role in national and state advocacy efforts to improve policies that impact farm workers and other low-income immigrants. In addition, it has also provided valuable services to over 30,000 immigrants; these include ESL/Civics classes, immigration legal services, safety net program assistance, tax filing support, safety and occupational health workshops, etc. Established to “open the doors of opportunity to working people and their communities,” the UFW Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, began operations in 2006.

The UFW Foundation fundraiser will be a cocktail reception open to the public for a minimum $20 donation, members of the media enter free of charge. The UFW Foundation’s own Black Eagle Wine will be served as well as local East Los Angeles hors d’oeuvres.
