U.S. Congressman Luis Gutierrez visits UFW farm workers in Salinas as part of a nationwide immigration reform tour
SALINAS, CA – U.S. Congressman Luis Gutierrez and United Farm Workers President Arturo Rodriguez will be meeting with hundreds of farm workers and community leaders to listen to their testimonies Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the St. Mary of the Nativity Catholic Church in Salinas near Closter Park.
The event, sponsored by the UFW and UFW Foundation, is part of Congressman Gutierrez’s nationwide Family Unity Outreach tour for immigration reform and a series of events and marches orchestrated by the UFW in California, Oregon, Texas, and Arizona to launch its campaign, "Con la Union de Campesinos Tendremos Papeles."
Hundreds of people are expected to attend the public event. Farm workers and their children will be sharing their stories with the congressman and urging him to continue the fight for a legal immigration process that allows farm workers come out of the shadows and stay together with their families.
