Salinas school plans march, celebration

In commemoration of Cesar Chavez’s birthday, the students, staff and parents of Cesar Chavez Elementary School will hold a march and rally from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the school at 1225 Towt St., Salinas.

The march will begin at the school and proceed through the neighborhood, where they will rally around the issues of promoting peace and nonviolent activism.

Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue and Councilmembers Tony Barrera and Sergio Sanchez are expected to attend.

The theme of the event is "Neighbors Helping Neighbors." Donations of food for the needy will be collected.
