Secretary of State Alex Padilla to Speak at East Bakersfield High School
California Secretary of State Alex Padilla will visit students at East Bakersfield High School tomorrow, March 31 at 1:15 p.m.
Secretary of State Padilla will mark Cesar Chavez Day in California by calling on young people to register to vote and participate in all elections. He will be joined by leaders from the Farm Worker Movement, including the United Farm Workers (UFW)—the union founded by Cesar Chavez and the UFW Foundation, a non-profit 501c3 organization.
Secretary Padilla’s parents emigrated from Mexico and raised their family in the working class community of Pacoima, California. His father worked as a short order cook and his mother cleaned houses. Padilla attended local public schools and went on to graduate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
