Arturo Rodriguez, president of the United Farm Workers of America, applauds the Senate’s confirmation of Rep. Hilda Solis as President Barack Obama’s Secretary of Labor. The following is a statement from UFW President:
"Today is a victorious day for all hardworking Americans. We are pleased about the confirmation of Congresswoman Hilda Solis as our nation’s Secretary of Labor. After eight years of an administration that favored businesses, we finally have someone who will protect and defend the well-being of all the men and women who work in the fields. She represents the change America voted for.
As a legislator and congresswoman, Secretary Solis tireless advocated for AgJOBS, the Employee Free Choice Act and has a record of improving working conditions in the workplace."
Secretary Solis worked in collaboration with the United Farm Workers for years to bring basic protections and dignity to one of the most vulnerable segments of our society. As a life-long supporter of union representation and as an advocate of worker’s rights, we are confident Ms. Solis will help restore what was the initial mission of the Labor Department. We know we can trust her. Now we can start working on rebuilding this great nation."
