The teach-in, entitled "La Familia," will feature talks by two educators, along with music and food. The free event at the City Hall rotunda is hosted by city Councilmen Mark Salinas and Francisco Zermeno.

"In 2011, Councilman Zermeno and I started hosting these teach-ins to honor Cesar Chavez, his work and his legacy," Salinas said.

Two Cal State East Bay instructors — Lettie Ramirez, a professor of education, and Carlos Salomon, a professor of ethnic studies and Latin American studies — are scheduled to speak.

Musician Jorge Gabriel Martinez Feliciano will perform, along with Mariachi Juvenil de Hayward. Food will be provided by three Hayward restaurants. The teach-in starts with a reception at 5 p.m., with the program beginning at 5:30 p.m. City Hall is at 777 B St.
