Salinas to host historical site meeting
The National Park Service will conduct the final of eight public meetings for the Draft Cesar Chavez Special Resource Study and Environmental Assessment next week in Salinas.
The meeting is set from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 at the National Steinbeck Center One Main Street, Salinas.
The study, released Oct. 12, evaluates sites being considered to represent the history of Cesar Chavez and the farm labor movement. The chosen sites will then be designated as part of the national park system, and become eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places or designation as a National Historic Landmark.
More than 100 sites were evaluated, including the Monterey County Jail in Salinas; 24 sites were identified as eligible for the National Register, including two in Salinas and one in San Juan Bautista.
The report is available online at: www.nps.gov/pwro/chavez.
