Popular Regional Mexican band ‘El Trono de Mexico,’ farm workers and Bakersfield community urge Congressman McCarthy to act on immigration reform
Bakersfield, CA – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy may not be familiar with the music of the internationally popular regional Mexican band ‘El Trono de Mexico.’ Its music can be heard playing in the cars, fields, stores and homes of millions of Hispanics throughout the United States.
But on Monday, ‘El Trono de Mexico’ wants to do something special for its loyal fans. Led by the United Farm Workers, UFW Foundation and Radio Campesina, the music band and a group of farm workers will visit the Bakersfield office of Congressman McCarthy to ask him to support immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship. El Trono de Mexico performed Sunday at the fairgrounds in Bakersfield during a free concert offered by Campesina Radio Network in celebration of community involvement and Cesar E. Chavez’s legacy.
‘El Trono de Mexico’ is the latest to join efforts by the United Farm Workers and the farm worker movement in pushing for a new immigration process for the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the country. Others celebrities include, Latin rock superstar Juanes and Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert.
