Oregon and Florida farm workers join in protest of work place abuses

    Dozens of people—including farm workers from Threemile Canyon Farms in Oregon and  Florida tomato workers—will march together in Hermison calling for justice for the workers who put food on our tables. Also joining the march will be two of the women who recently filed suit against the dairies at Threemile over sexual discrimination.

    The march is a joint action organized by the United Farm Workers of America, AFL-CIO and the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW). The UFW is organizing dairy workers at Threemile Canyon Farms. CIW is working with Florida tomato workers and has called for a national boycott of Taco Bell. The CIW launched the boycott due to Taco Bell’s refusal to accept responsibility for the working conditions of farmworkers employed in the production of tomatoes it uses in its restaurants.

The CIW is in the midst of a Pacific Northwest speaking tour to draw attention to their boycott of Taco Bell.

    “We’re joining forces with the CIW to call attention to the fact that across the United States, there is much to be done so farm workers can have a just workplace,” said Erik Nicholson, Pacific Northwest regional director of the UFW.
