This week I was in Los Angeles in a packed house at the Hammer Museum Theater in Westwood to see an early screening of the incredible documentary put together by Richard Ray Perez and Molly O’Brien, entitled "Cesar’s Last Fast." It focuses on the spiritual commitment and sacrifice of Cesar Chavez during his last fast, of 36 days, over the pesticide poisoning of farm workers and their children in the summer of 1988.
Rick and Molly, with help from the Sundance Foundation, are still raising funds to complete production of this wonderful documentary that uses never-before-seen footage of Cesar’s ’88 fast as well as highlights from his long journey in building the farm worker movement. This film will really educate and inspire new generations of activists across North America. We will keep you informed on the completion of this terrific work of art.
