Last week I met here in the UFW’s headquarters at La Paz in Keene, Calif. with two wonderful people doing impressive and significant work in Mexico. We spent the day with Sister Leticia Gutierrez Valderrama and Axel Garcia Carballar. They work for the Pastoral Dimension of Human Mobility based in Mexico City. The primary focus of their labors is working with people from Mexico and Central America, providing them with food, shelter and other basic services needed by people migrating to this country. They shared with us many tragic stories of the men and women who migrate to the United States, to perform many of the hard and dirty jobs other American workers won’t do, in search of a better life.
