Owner Dick Bengen often carries a rifle with him on his large dairy farm. Former employee Miguel Cuevas, said Mr Bengen told him, "This rifle is for those people with the union." When workers like Miguel began signing union cards, the Bengens started looking for reasons to fire the workers, one by one. Miguel was terminated after being given an ultimatum: disown the union, or be fired. "When I was fired, Ruby lied to unemployment and said I had quit so that I wouldn’t be able to get unemployment benefits…I went through a really tough time and even lost my house. I ended up having to sleep in my car because I couldn’t get a job because Ruby gave bad references about me. I was left in the street with no money and no food to eat."
