Dole strawberry workers vote decisively to keep the UFW

United Farm Workers National Vice President Armando Elenes issued the following statement after the Agricultural Labor Relations Board counted ballots from an Oct. 25, 2013 election in which the 638 workers at Dole strawberries in the Monterey Bay region overwhelmingly voted to keep their representation by the UFW. The vote was 346 for the union and 175 for no-union. The UFW also represents another 250 Dole strawberry workers in Ventura County who were not affected by the election.

The workers at Dole voted for their union and the pay and benefits they enjoy through their UFW contract. But more importantly, they voted for themselves and their families.

Dole workers look forward to renegotiating their union contract. They hope to move forward and continue receiving representation from the United Farm Workers, including their health benefits.

Credit goes to the workers at Dole, with strong leadership from UFW Central Coast Regional Director Lauro Barajas and the union staff.
