Phoenix Councilman Michael Nowakowski has invited the community to funeral services for his mother, Maria Nowakowski, who died on Sunday.
Phoenix Councilman Michael Nowakowski has invited the community to funeral services for his mother, Maria Nowakowski, who died on Sunday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday night at St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church, 4715 N. Central Ave. The funeral Mass will be Thursday at the same church beginning at 10 a.m., followed by burial service at Holy Cross Cemetery, 10045 W. Thomas Road, Avondale.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to one of the following non-profit organizations in memory of Maria: Cesar Chavez Foundation Scholarship Fund to benefit Dream Act Students, 1440 E. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ 85034; or St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, 420 W. Watkins Road, Phoenix, AZ 85002. Donations can also be made here.
Nowakowski mentioned his mother was sick during his speech on Jan. 3, when he took the oath of office again after winning re-election in August. Maria was a strong community acitvist and was a volunteer at several non-profits such as St. Vincent de Paul.
