6th-annual march to honor Cesar Chavez this Saturday in Anderson
The Northern Hispanic Latino Coalition announced a march to honor and celebrate the life and contributions of Cesar Chavez would commence on Saturday, March 28. The march will begin at 3 p.m. at the Gateway Shopping Center in Anderson, in front of the North Valley Bank, on Balls Ferry Road. The march will conclude near the Anderson City Hall community center.
The entire community is invited to attend and enjoy the celebration with music, scholarship presentations and a fund raiser dinner ending at 5 p.m. Dinner costs $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. All proceeds will be used for the NHLC Latino Graduation Scholarship Program.
Cesar Chavez, 1927-1993, is well known as a great civil rights leader in our country. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he went on to become an advocate for farm worker rights. He was a highly respected leader in the area of fair labor practices. Under the leadership of Cesar Chavez, the United Farm Workers made historic achievements in the area of worker rights through peaceful demonstrations and boycotts.
