Nevada’s Washoe County And City Of Reno Say Cesar Chavez Adhered To Gandhi Principles

By

Both Washoe County Commission and City of Reno in Nevada have proclaimed March 31, 2013 as Cesar Chavez Day, in honor of civil rights icon Cesar Estrada Chavez.

Both proclamations, signed by Washoe County Commission Chairman David Humke and City of Reno Mayor Robert A. Cashell Senior respectively mention “…Cesar Chavez adhered to the principles of non-violence practiced by M.K. Gandhi…”

Thanking Washoe County Board of Commissioners at the proclamation acceptance on March 26, religious statesman Rajan Zed, who is Chairperson of Nevada Cesar Chavez Day Committee, requested Commissioners to rename a major street in the County as Avenida Cesar Chavez.

Zed has also urged City of Reno and University of Nevada-Reno (UNR) each to rename one major street as Avenida Cesar Chavez.

A community-wide “Nevada Cesar Chavez Day Multi-faith Service” will be held at UNR on March 31 afternoon by Zed headed Committee and hosted by UNR Interfaith Students Club.
