Dear Jocelyn,

Together, we’re making history. The United Farm Workers and Earthjustice have been fighting for new protections from toxic pesticides, and together with our activists—including you—we’re winning!

As strategic partners in this work, we’re reaching out on behalf of both organizations to tell you that we would not have won recent tremendous victories without your action.

Thanks to YOU, the Environmental Protection Agency updated a 23-year old law to protect farm workers and their families from toxic agricultural pesticides. And a month later, the agency announced a precedent-setting decision to ban the neurotoxic pesticide chlorpyrifos from use in agricultural fields. Send your thanks to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy for her leadership and let her know how important this win is for you!

As we walked together on a tour of a farm in California, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy told us personally that she listened to your letters of support, as well as to farm workers’ stories of toxic exposures that could have been avoided. She was so compelled by our collective public outreach that she instructed her agency to create stronger protections from toxic pesticides.

But good laws must be enforced to make a difference. A new standard will only improve conditions on the ground if the EPA and the state agricultural departments are committed to effective implementation and strong enforcement of the new laws.

Earthjustice and United Farm Workers are committed to continuing our partnership, and with support from people like you, our organizations will work to ensure that all farm workers and their families are respected and protected in the workplace.

Together we just had a huge impact, and while our work is far from over, we’re inspired by these accomplishments.

Sincerely,

Arturo S. Rodriguez, President
United Farm Workers of America

Trip Van Noppen, President
Earthjustice

P.S. EPA Administrator McCarthy was personally moved by our letters and comments. Please thank her for her leadership in strengthening protections from pesticides for over 2.7 million farm workers and their families—and let her know how important this is to you!

After you take action, please ask your friends and family to take action too. You can send them an e-mail, post this campaign on your Facebook and/or Twitter page by clicking here.
