The Cesar E. Chavez Study Act Signed Into Law

The Cesar E. Chavez Foundation is proud to announce the enactment of the Cesar Estrada Chavez Study Act.

The bill, introduced by Senators Ken Salazar, D-Colorado and John McCain, R-Arizona in the Senate, and by Congresswoman Hilda Solis, D-California in the House of Representatives, authorizes the U.S. Department of Interior Department to study sites important in the life of Cesar Chavez for possible inclusion into the National Park System.

The Cesar Estrada Chavez Study Act was included in an omnibus parks bill that contained legislation dealing with various public land and national park issues.

"The enactment of this bill will serve as a powerful vehicle to introduce a new generation of Americans to the life of Cesar Chavez and the history of the farm labor movement," said Paul Chavez, Chairman of the Cesar Chavez Foundation. "Honoring sites in Arizona, California, and other states associated with his life will keep his vital legacy alive and serve as an example for our future leaders, teaching them that through determination and hard work they can improve their own lives and communities."
