Cesar Chavez march pays tribute to famed labor organizer
VISALIA — On Saturday, a morning march and afternoon activities have been organized in honor of the renowned labor organizer’s birthday, planned by the Cesar Chavez Celebrating the Legacy Committee.
The events will commence with a march gathering at 9 a.m. at the College of the Sequoias, 915 S. Mooney Blvd.
The marchers will begin the walk at 10 a.m., heading north toward Main Street, making a stop at Redwood High School.
Next, they will continue north on Jacob Street and arrive at the Wittman Center/Visalia Community Campus, 204 NW 3rd Ave. around noon for the afternoon celebration.
The activities following the march are scheduled to take place from noon to 5 p.m.
The event is intended for the entire family.
Some of the activities that will take place include youth dance competitions, guest speakers, an exhibit, raffle items, face painting, music, informational booths and more.
The Cesar Chavez Celebrating the Legacy Committee is composed of various community members representing various nonprofit organizations and community citizens.
The purpose of the committee is to bring awareness and educate the community of the values of Cesar Chavez.
Some of the agencies the committee members represent include, but are not limited to, Dolores Huerta Foundation, Radio Campesina, SEIU Latino Caucus, Tulare/Kings Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Tulare County Hispanic Roundtable, Tulare County League of Mexican American Women and Proteus, Inc.
