More than 300 students, parents and staff from Eastmont Intermediate School volunteered Saturday to plant more than 35 trees and 100 flowers and plants throughout the school site as part of a day of service to honor the Cesar Chavez hoiday.
"To see our students give back in this way is so inspiring," said Montebello Unified School District Board President Edwin Chau.
"Not only are they following the footsteps of UFW leader Cesar Chavez in regard to acts of service, but they are beautifying their school site at the same time."
Members of Chavez’s family attended the event to thank all participants for their service to their comm\unity, which is what the Cesar Chavez holiday encourages.
