Serve Yavapai performed service projects at four Prescott schools on Saturday, March 31, as part of their César Chávez day of service.

"I’m grateful to the staff at the four schools who stepped up despite short lead time to give us the opportunity to provide their buildings with some much-needed sprucing up," said LinMarie Dicianni, AmeriCorps Member serving as Volunteer Coordinator for the Prescott Unified School District.

At Miller Valley School, Serve Yavapai team members re-painted four-square and hopscotch squares on the playground, installed new nets on basketball hoops, and raked pea gravel under playground equipment to improve playground safety, said Erika Stone, VISTA team leader and events coordinator for Serve Yavapai.

"Thanks for the awesome job done on Saturday," said Jeff Lane, principal of Miller Valley School. "It is greatly appreciated."

At Lincoln School they removed brush, weeded, cleaned up school grounds and painted the cafeteria and stairwell.

"We appreciate your hard work, efforts and dedication your AmeriCorps group gave to Lincoln School on Saturday," said Teresa Bruso, principal of Lincoln Elementary. "We appreciate your willingness to come back and complete our projects."

The group also spackled holes in the walls and painted the office at Discovery Gardens Preschool and raked, weeded, cleaned up the grounds, and trimmed bushes near the quad and gymnasium at Prescott Mile High Middle School.

Serve Yavapai is a collaboration of the Yavapai County VISTA Project of Prescott College and the Yavapai County AmeriCorps Project of Community Counts, and is dedicated to helping build and sustain the efforts of Yavapai County service providers and community members to continually improve the quality of life across the region.
