Serve Yavapai to mark Cesar Chavez Day |
Individuals and organizations across the United States come together each year on March 31, in service and recognition to pay tribute to the mission of César Chávez. Chávez dedicated his life’s work to supporting the right to fair working conditions, social justice and community engagement. The day is an opportunity to strengthen and build relationships in our own community while learning about the Arizona-born Chávez and his work. In honor of César Chávez Day 2013, Serve Yavapai and the Yavapai County AmeriCorps Project partner with the Y Garden in an effort to fight hunger in Yavapai County. As a result, of Easter falling on this National Day of Service, we will be celebrating the Legacy of César Chávez on Thursday, March 28.
The Y Garden is a Community Garden located behind Prescott’s YMCA. Their mission is to bring folks of all ages and walks of life together to share in growing and consuming fresh food, teaching and learning gardening knowledge, and producing natural food to distribute to those in need. Community members are invited to volunteer with us at 10 a.m. March 28, at the Prescott YMCA to prepare for spring and summer gardening. Activities include digging and turning soil, spreading mulch and basic garden preparation. Physical activity will range from moderate to difficult.
