(RENO) – Nevada Cesar Chavez Day Committee has urged that one major street in all major cities/towns of Nevada (USA) be renamed as Avenida Cesar Chavez after civil rights icon Cesar Estrada Chavez, whose birthday falls on March 31.
Rajan Zed, who is Chairperson of the Committee, in a release in Nevada today, also stressed that Nevada should declare March 31 as state holiday like some other states.
Moreover, besides cities, Las Vegas and Reno campuses of University of Nevada should also rename one of their major thoroughfares as Avenida Cesar Chavez, Zed, who is a distinguished religious statesman, added.
Rajan Zed further said that Nevada should honor Chavez’s efforts at bringing equality-dignity-justice for all and his non-violent movement on Gandhian principles for social change. He thanked Washoe County Commission and City of Reno for proclaiming March 31, 2013 as Cesar Chavez Day.
Committee is organizing “Nevada Cesar Chavez Day Multi-faith Service” to be held at University of Nevada-Reno campus on March 31. Various religious, political, educational and community leaders of the state are expected to participate in this Service; which will offer multi-faith prayers, music, dance, reflections and multimedia display honoring Chavez’s legacy.
