BAKERSFIELD, CA–September 17, 2011— As part of the nationwide “¡Ya es hora, ciudadanía!” campaign’s National Citizenship Month, the UFW Foundation is presenting a naturalization workshop in Bakersfield this Saturday, September 17th. The Citizenship workshop is directed at immigrants who are Legal Permanent Residents in Kern county and will take place at Iglesia Evangelica Victoria en Cristo church, located on 600 Planz Road Bakersfield, California .
The event is a two-part event and the first part is free and open to the public. Participants who qualify may sign up at the first part on September 17th to be able to receive low-cost assistance with the citizenship application during the second session, held the following Saturday on September 24.
Sara Ochoa, Citizenship Fellow at the UFW Foundation, emphasizes the importance of becoming U.S. Citizen: “It is essential for participants who are eligible for citizenship to apply and begin enjoying the same privileges U.S. Citizens have,” she says, “As the 2012 elections approach, now is the time to apply for U.S. Citizenship and make a difference by voting.”
The event is the third naturalization workshop that the UFW Foundation has held in Kern County this year as part of the “¡ya es hora, ciudadanía!” campaign, a project of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO). Part of Cesar Chavez’s Farm Worker Movement, the the UFW Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that offers direct services to immigrants and farm workers in Kern County.
