The UFW Foundation hosts Community Education Forums on Immigration Reform to explain the recent Senate’s comprehensive immigration bill

The UFW Foundation (UFWF) is hosting Community Education Forums on Immigration Reform in Bakersfield and Fresno. The events are in response to the recent unveiling of the Senate’s comprehensive immigration reform bill, Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013, and are in an effort to educate the community about the bill and the overall legislative process.

The comprehensive immigration reform proposal — including its agricultural provisions negotiated by the United Farm Workers and major grower associations — fulfills the urgent need for an earned legalization program that enables undocumented farm workers who are the backbone of the nation’s agricultural industry to swiftly obtain legal immigration status. It will also stabilize the farm labor workforce through incentives for immigrants to continue working in U.S. agriculture.

We believe the comprehensive bill and its compromise farm worker provisions will help improve working conditions and job opportunities for farm workers. The comprehensive measure would allow many undocumented farm workers to earn legal status by continuing to work in agriculture as well as offer the same protections to their immediate family members.

The UFW Foundation is a BIA-recognized immigration program that offers immigration legal services to low-income families in California and Arizona. With the support of Radio Campesina and the Cesar Chavez Foundation, the UFW Foundation will be hosting a series of free Community Education Forums to explain the Senate’s immigration reform bill and the legislative process. These forums will also help explain to the community that this is a bill and not a law.

RSVPs are recommended for both events.
