Immigration reform advocates in Bakersfield walk Congressman McCarthy’s district seeking Senate bill support; welcome delegation of Catholic sisters

Bakersfield, CA –  Supporters advocating for a new immigration process that would allow the approximate 11 million of undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States to come out of the shadows are mobilizing across the nation during the Father’s Day weekend to garner support for the bipartisan comprehensive immigration legislation being debated in the Senate floor.

In Bakersfield, the Kern Coalition for Citizenship will host a “day of action” on Saturday. Coalition members will participate in a “Block Walk” to register voters, as well as asking residents to sign postcards that urge U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy to support an immigration reform that includes a roadmap to citizenship.

Following the “Block Walk,” the NETWORK’s "Nuns on the Bus" will join the Kern Coalition for Citizenship in Bakersfield in its efforts to persuade McCarthy & U.S. Rep. David Valadao, who represents parts of Kern County, to support comprehensive immigration reform.

The NETWORK’s "Nuns on the Bus" is a delegation of Catholic Sisters on a 6,500-mile, 15-state tour, promoting family unity, seeking protection of the rights of all immigrant workers, and urging lawmakers across the country to support legislation that provides a roadmap to citizenship for 11 million aspiring Americans.
