Telemundo/MSNBC event first time President Meets face-to-face with Undocumented Americans-In-Waiting
MIAMI– United Farm Workers member and farm worker leader Raul Esparza de la Paz is among Dreamers and immigrant rights activists joining President Obama by taking part in an historic bilingual town hall meeting today (Wednesday). The event will be aired tonight in Spanish on Telemundo at 7 p.m. EST (4 p.m. PST) and in English on MSNBC at 8 p.m. EST (5 p.m. PST).
Esparza de la Paz is a worker leader at the company where he labors feeding dairy and meat cows in eastern Oregon. A father of four with ten grandchildren, he would benefit from the Obama administrative relief. He has a son who is a permanent U.S. resident and Esparza de La Paz would apply for DAPA through him. One of his daughters already has benefited from DACA, and two more daughters may also potentially qualify for relief from deportation under the new DAPA program. The Oregon farm worker said his family is here, so he feels his roots are also in the U.S.
The bilingual town hall with President Obama will be moderated by Telemundo anchorman Jose Diaz Balart. The groundbreaking event, pre-recorded at Florida International University in Miami, will be the first time the President will officially meet face-to-face in person with undocumented Americans to answer their questions. It comes amidst continuing recent attacks on immigrant families in Congress and the courts, President Obama plans to use the forum to speak to the community directly impacted by his recent executive action, and to the entire nation. He will explain to them how he will defend his new programs offering protections for immigrants.
