Farm workers deliver ‘Certificate of Grower Appreciation’ to Gov. Brown for vetoing SB 104

Fifty farm workers representing industries from across California on Wednesday will deliver a huge, blown-up “Grower Certificate of Appreciation” to Gov. Jerry Brown over his June 28 veto of SB 104, the Fair Treatment for Farm Workers Act. In the wake of glowing tributes from growers for Gov Brown’s veto of the United Farm Workers-sponsored bill, farm workers will carry the huge elaborately printed blown-up certificate from the Western Growers Association office at 1415 L Street in a procession to the state Capitol where they will present it to Gov. Brown.
“Farm workers do all the other work for the growers, so we’re delivering their certificate of appreciation to the governor for them,” says Nicanor Rojas, a Kern and Tulare counties grape worker. SB 104 would give farm workers the choice of traditional workplace polling place balloting or confidential state-issued ballots to be filled out in privacy at home. The certificate will read:
