As the 150-mile, 10-day farm workers "March for the Governor’s Signature" nears Sacramento, 12 of Cesar Chavez’s 31 grandchildren join the marchers Friday for the last three days of the trek. Ranging in age from 14 to 32, all of them were raised in the movement their grandfather founded.

Participating Friday in the march are Teresa Chavez Delgado, 32; Christine Chavez Delgado, 30; Paul Chavez, 29; Julie Chavez Rodriguez, 24; Cesar L. Chavez, 21; Juan Chavez Villarino, 19; Robert Chavez, 19; Arthur Salvador Rodriguez, 17; Anthony Chavez, 17; Julia Chavez Villarino, 16; Nicole Chavez, 15; and Fernando Chavez, 14.

The march as well as fasts and vigils at the state Capitol are part of a United Farm Workers campaign urging Gov. Gray Davis to sign SB 1736, the UFW-sponsored bill granting farm workers mediation and arbitration to win union contracts when growers drag out negotiations.

Meanwhile, march organizers announced routes and schedules for the last three days. A flatbed truck for still and TV news photographers will immediately proceed the march Saturday and Sunday. Risers and mult boxes will be at the rally site Sunday.
