State Board of Education to Adopt Cesar Chavez Curriculum
SACRAMENTO – The State Board of Education on Wednesday is scheduled to consider and adopt a model curriculum on the life and work of Cesar Chavez, the late civil rights leader who led the historic farm labor movement to gain social justice for California’s agricultural workers. The curriculum is an internet-based program that will appear on the California Department of Education website. The legislation that established the state holiday honoring Chavez also mandated that the Board adopt a model curriculum guide to be available for use by public schools for exercises related to Cesar Chavez Day.
Fernando F. Chavez, the eldest son of Cesar Chavez and a San Jose attorney, will be present for the adoption. Also in attendance will be students from Cesar Chavez Intermediate School of the Sacramento City Unified School District.
