March details for Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday
More than two dozen lawmakers join farm workers’ Capitol fast Monday

Organizers of the United Farm Workers’ 150-mile, 10-day "March for the Governor’s Signature" to Sacramento released details for Monday through Wednesday–as 29 lawmakers joined farm workers fasting for the day at a vigil on the state Capitol’s north steps. Monday the vigil begins running 24 hours a day.

The Merced-to-Sacramento march–led by UFW President Arturo Rodriguez and union co-founder Dolores Huerta–is aimed at seeking Gov. Gray Davis’ signature on SB 1736, a UFW-sponsored bill granting field laborers mediation and arbitration to win their first union contracts when growers refuse to bargain in good faith. It concludes with a Capitol rally on Sunday, Aug. 25.
