Batavia, NY — This week, 2 additional farm workers out of the 14 Lynn-Ette workers detained by ICE in Albion, NY on May 2, 2025, were released from ICE custody on bond. This brings a total of 3 workers who have since been released. Regrettably, at least 5 workers have also been deported to Mexico or Guatemala. 6 remain in ICE custody. The UFW remains in touch with all the impacted workers and their families and is providing as much support as possible.
“We are relieved to have 3 of our brothers outside of ICE custody,” said UFW Secretary Treasurer Armando Elenes. “There are those who hope heightened immigration enforcement will suppress labor organizing. They are wrong. Now more than ever, immigrant workers must come together to fight for themselves — because this government and exploitative employers will never do so. We call on ICE to release the remaining workers in detention and on Lynn-Ette to recognize the union.”
Many of the workers detained by ICE were actively involved in a union organizing campaign at Lynn-Ette farms, a vegetable producer in Orleans County, NY. UFW organizing has been underway at Lynn-Ette since 2022.
