Farm workers rally Saturday in Arvin to demand immediate bold action by Congress on farm worker legalization

Immigrants, allies and partners will rally across the nation

Arvin, Calif. — On May 1st, International Workers Day and Immigrant Rights Day, the UFW Foundation, United Farm Workers, farm workers and allies will rally in Arvin at 2 p.m. PST to demand the Senate pass the Farm Workforce Modernization Act of 2021. The action is part of the national day of action led by We Are Home campaign with dozens of events nationwide to demand the Congress use all tools available to establish a path to citizenship for farm workers, Dreamers and TPS recipients. More than five million undocumented essential workers have risked their lives to keep the country healthy and fed during the pandemic, while being at risk of deportation.

In his first address to a joint session of Congress, President Biden urged Congress to pass “a pathway to citizenship for farm workers who put food on our tables.” One way for Congress to make sure farm workers have a pathway to citizenship is by approving the Farm Workforce Modernization Act. The agricultural immigration bill is the result of months of tough bargaining between the United Farm Workers, UFW Foundation, the nation’s major grower associations and lawmakers from both parties. It passed the House on March 18 with 30 Republican votes, winning the most bipartisan support of any immigration proposal in years. The Farm Workforce Modernization Act would let undocumented farm workers apply for legal status.

What: One of dozens of events nationwide urging Congress pass immigration reform for farm workers.

Who: UFW Foundation, United Farm Workers, farm workers and allies.

When: Saturday, May 1, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. PST.

Where: David Rd & South Wheeler Ridge Rd, Arvin, CA.
