March beginning at Benjamin Banneker Park to ICE Headquarters towards the Capitol

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, farm worker leaders and their families from ten states are marching in D.C. along with thousands of others as part of the We Are Home campaign urging the Senate and the House to pass legalization this year. Following the march, farm workers will lead visits with members of congress. The march and lobby visits are a part of a nationwide effort to demand Congress ensure a path to legalization stays in the budget reconciliation package. Farm workers, Dreamers, TPS holders and other essential workers demand Congress recognizes their vital role in the U.S. economy and communities.

Farm workers traveled to D.C. from Washington state; California; Oregon; Arizona; Colorado; Idaho; Georgia; Michigan; North Carolina and Texas.

Farm workers in D.C. are available for interviews in English & Spanish.

UFW Foundation National Field Director Marichel Mejia, said:

Today the black eagle is flying high as farm worker leaders from across the country march alongside thousands of immigrant activists to advocate for legalization. Day in and day out, in the middle of a pandemic essential farm workers have put their bodies and their lives on the line to feed the nation and today they are at our nation’s Capital to demand that Congress take immediate action to legalize undocumented families. Our farm worker leaders expect and deserve nothing less.”

United Farm Workers Organizer Areli Arteaga, said:

“Farm workers like my parents have stepped up and risked their lives to keep this country fed. Thousands of us from all over the country are here with a shared commitment today. This is the year. We’re not giving up and were not backing down. ¡El tiempo es ya! ¡Si se puede!”
