LUBBOCK, Texas (NEWS RELEASE) – The following is a news release from Los Hermanos Familia:

Join Lubbock as we hold the 20th Annual César Chávez Day March & Celebration. The event serves as a tribute to his commitment to social justice and respect for human dignity.

Chávez was born on March 31 in 1927. He was a migrant farm worker from the age of 10. He became active with the Community Service Organization, which helped fight racial and economic discrimination against Chicano residents.

Chávez co-founded the National Farm Workers Association in the early 1960s. He focused attention on the plight of migrant farm workers and gained support to have his organization be the first successful farm workers’ union in the United States. He used principles of non-violence, with strikes and boycotts. César Chávez remained president of United Farm Workers of America (AFL-CIO) until his death on April 23, 1993. He was also honored with a commemorative postage stamp that the United States Postal Service issued in 2003.

The 20th Annual César E. Chávez March will commemorate the historic march led by Chávez and many believers who stood for quality food on our tables, as well as equity and safety for farm workers.

In addition, all are welcome to this annual march that will be dedicated to Dreamers

Collectively, we will pay tribute to American hero and civil rights leader, César E. Chávez march to be held Sat., March 30, 2019.

This year our 2019 theme will be The Courage Within.

César stood as one of our nation’s most outstanding leaders for peace, justice and non-violence alongside folks like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Influenced by Mahatma Gandhi, and the Southern civil rights movement, César maintained his commitment to non-violence even in the face of violent attacks from growers.

Please join us and help us unite in peace for the greater good of our community, and for the greater good of our nation.
