Interactive site makes Cesar Chavez come alive for a new generation
LatinaLista.net — March 31 is Cesar Chavez’s birthday. He would have been 83 years old.
If there is one organization that has come to personify Cesar Chavez, it is the one that he helped found, lead and which still carries his legacy — United Farm Workers (UFW).
Understanding social media better and knowing that the world turns to them at this time of year for news of Cesar Chavez marches, status of the national holiday petition to get a federally recognized Cesar Chavez day, pictures, video and biographical history of a man seen by many Latinos as an inspiring role model, the UFW has created a special section on their site devoted to Chavez.
The Cesar Chavez Action and Information Center features videos and audio recordings of Chavez, along with, detailed history of not only his life but the Si Se Puede movement.
Also at the site is a map of planned marches commemorating his birthday and legacy. There are even special e-cards that visitors can send to family and friends in honor of Chavez.
"Kindness and compassion toward all living things is a mark of a civilized society. Conversely, cruelty, whether it is directed against human beings or against animals, is not the exclusive province of any one culture or community of people. Racism, economic deprival, dog fighting and cock fighting, bull fighting and rodeos are cut from the same fabric: violence. Only when we have become nonviolent toward all life will we have learned to live well ourselves." ~ Cesar Chavez
