Thousands March for Immigration Reform
By KSEE News
UFW organizers counted roughly 2,000 people. Many were undocumented farm workers, people who came to America looking for a better life but say the path to citizenship isn’t easy.
They marched through South East Fresno, calling for immigration reform, something President Obama recently showed support for. The people we talked with said the support is good but they need change.
UFW Vice President, Armando Elenes said, ""they’re here, they’re working, they’re paying taxes cause every time you work, you get taxes taken away but I think it’s time for them to have a path to citizenship."
The people also marched to celebrate the life of Cesar Chavez, he died 20 years ago. Next weekend, people will march in Visalia to honor him again.
Several similar marches took place all over the State Sunday. In places like Oxnard and Bakersfield. Organizers say this work is important because 80% of farm workers are undocumented.
