BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A national "Fast for Families" bus tour will be stopping by Bakersfield to raise awareness of immigration reform.

Kern County immigration reform advocates, including United Farm Workers president Arturo S. Rodriguez, will welcome the bus at Yokuts Park, located off Truxturn Ave. and highway 99 this Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Following its arrival, the bus will continue with a procession at 10:45 a.m. to House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy’s office. A press conference will then be held at 11 a.m.

The bus tour will meet at 6 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, to hold a community meeting to discuss immigration reform and community involvement.

The bus tour is part of the "Fast for Families Across America" national campaign. The campaign plans to visit more than 75 congressional districts — seven of those in California — throughout the country.

Rudy Lopez and Dae Joong Yoon, who fasted for 22 days relying only on water, will be among those traveling in the bus to Bakersfield.

The bus tour took of from Los Angeles Monday, and is expected to reach Washington, D.C., on April 9.
